CATTLE FOOT
TRIMMING
I balance the cow, not just cut the horn. Preventing lameness is cheaper than fixing it.
THE HIDDEN COST OF A LAME COW
It’s not just the vet bill. It’s the milk you lose every single day.
Milk Yield Lost
A lame cow eats less and stands less. That's 5-6 litres per day, gone.
Days Open Added
Poor mobility = poor fertility. She doesn't show heat, extending your calving interval.
Cost Per Case
Treatment + Lost Milk + Extended Interval. One case costs you a fortune.
I DON'T JUST TRIM HOOVES.
I READ THEM.
My father spent 30 years learning what makes a healthy foot. He passed that knowledge to me. When I'm in the crush, I'm looking at wear patterns, checking for early signs of trouble, and thinking about what the floor is doing to the foot.
The "Whole Picture" Advantage
Farmers who use me for concrete grooving often use me for trimming too. If I see a specific wear pattern on the claw, I know exactly which part of your yard is causing it.
- Low Stress Handling: I handle stock calmly. Stressed cows hold back milk.
- Efficient Setup: I set up quickly to minimize disruption to your routine.
ROUTINE & CORRECTIVE CARE
Whether it's the whole herd or a few problem cows, I get them sorted.
Routine Herd Maintenance
Regular trimming keeps the herd balanced. Catching problems early means fixing them cheaply.
- Scheduled herd visits
- Balancing hoof weight distribution
Corrective Trimming
When lameness has set in, I work to fix it. I identify the root cause and apply the correct block.
- Sole Ulcer Treatment
- Digital Dermatitis Management
COMMON HOOF PROBLEMS
Digital Dermatitis
Highly infectious bacterial infection causing raw, painful lesions. Requires immediate hygiene management.
Sole Ulcers
Caused by pinching of the corium. Often linked to long standing times on concrete or poor trimming.
White Line Disease
Separation of the wall from the sole, allowing dirt and infection to enter. Often caused by shearing forces.
Overgrowth
Changes the cow's gait, putting strain on tendons and joints. Routine trimming prevents this.
HOOF TRIMMING FAQ
READY TO GET IT SORTED?
Slippery yards and overgrown hooves don't fix themselves. They cost you money—in lame cows, vet bills, reduced yields, and culls you shouldn't have to make.
